Its purpose is to identify and train talented and motivated young men and women; to nurture their creative talents and to guide them in developing a strong dance technique. A comprehensive, structured training program in dance is provided for the serious student. Dancers are exposed to a diversity of technical and artist style. Each dancer will enjoy the process of achieving while understanding the idea of self-competition. The Roswell Dance Theatre consists of three companies: ballet, tap, and jazz. Additionally, there is a Pre-Professional Ballet Company under the direction of Ballet Mistress Tracey Yanckello Bayly.

Company membership is offered after an audition process in the spring.

The ballet company is under the direction of Nancy Tolbert Yilmaz and Mary Lynn Taylor. If you become a member of the ballet company, you are required to take three ballet classes each week. Members of the ballet company perform annually in the “Nutcracker,” the Spring Concert, South East Regional Ballet Association concerts, and other performances.

The jazz company is under the direction of Nancy Tolbert Yilmaz. If you are chosen to become a member of the jazz company, you are required to take two or more jazz classes each week plus one ballet class. Members of the jazz company perform in the annual production of the “Nutcracker” plus other performances during the year.

The tap company is under the direction of Birda Ringstad. If you choose to become a member of the tap company, you are required to take two tap classes each week. The tap company performs at many events and competitions throughout the year.

Students may become a member of any of these companies. Students do not have to become members of two or more companies, but may be a member of as many companies as they would like.

If you become a member of the Roswell Dance Theatre, you may not take dance classes at any other studio.

If, for any reason, a company member cannot perform in any piece set by their instructor, the member must give the instructor at least three weeks notice of their unavailability to perform.
